Glenroe Farm: open farm and playground for a great family day out

    May 13, 2020 /

Glenroe farm in Co Wicklow is a great place for a family day out with little kids. This is our review and why we recommend it for a fun family day out near Dublin with small kids Glenroe Farm is an open farm in County Wicklow with lovely spaces and activities for families with kids. The main house hosts a nice cafe and the grounds have a lovely playground, walks a fairy garden and there is an option to see animals and even pet some of them: they have super cute, soft rabbits! Glenroe Farm is well indicated from the main road between Dublin and Wicklow and we first visited…

Glendalough: all you need to know for visiting this stunning Irish historical site

    May 10, 2020 /

All you need to know to visit Glendalough, Co. Wicklow. What to see in Glendalough, how to get there, why it is worth seeing this beautiful natural and historical site. Glendalough is one of my favorite places in Ireland and one I never tire of visiting, no matter how often we go. I first visited Glendlaugh 25 years ago: it was the first stop on my Ireland road trip and I got there as the sun started to set. The place was empty, silent and still and I still remember that first around the lakes as a magical time. Since then, I have been to Glendalough more times than I…

Easy and delicious sheet pan trout recipe

    May 5, 2020 /

Easy sheet pan trout recipe: easy recipe for a no-mess, delicious dinner perfect for a family meal or a dinner party with friends. I love sheet pan dinners. They are the easiest way to out together a nice family dinner without a lot of fuss and they also make great dinner party food: not only do they present well but they also allow you to stay with your friends while the oven does all the work. Win! One of my favorite sheet pan recipes is with trout fillet. We get trout pretty often, usually already filleted, and depending on the mood I make it plain or add sauces or extra…

All you need to know to plan a visit to Birr Castle, Ireland and why this is the best Irish castle to visit if you love astronomy or if you are looking for a fun day out with the kids. I am always on the hunt for good day trips from Dublin we can take with the kids and one day, towards the end of October, I came across a place I hadn’t encountered before: Birr castle. What to pack for a family camping trip in Ireland: complete camping list

    May 2, 2020 /

Tried and tested family camping packing list for your camping trip in Ireland! When I tell people I don’t particularly like camping, they usually take it I don’t like the ‘sleeping in a tent part of if. But this is very much not the case: sleeping in a tent is actually the part of camping I like the most! What I don’t like about camping is the STUFF or rather, the amount of it! When we travel internationally, I am the queen of light packing (super light, we always travel carry on only even for weeks of travel) so when I see the bar boot packed to the brim, I…

The wonderful walk to Lough Dan, Wicklow

    April 28, 2020 /

All you need to know before you go on the walk to Lough Dan and why we love this peaceful walk in the Wicklow Mountains. The walk to Lough Dan, in County Wicklow, is probably my favourite in the area. It is the perfect walk for when you feel like properly stretching your legs but do not want to go on a proper hike and it is also a great place to feel like you are away from it all, without actually having to drive that far from the city. We take this walk often: we did it before the kids came along and, since then, we have gone often…

Visiting Blarney Castle with kids: all you need to know

    April 26, 2020 /

How to visit Blarney Castle with kids: practical tips, need to know Blarney Castle is one of the most popular and most beautiful places in Ireland. However, for the longest time, I wasn’t sure it was a place our kids would enjoy. The main thing Blarney Castle is famous for is the so-called ‘Blarney Stone’ and I knew that kids under 8 were not allowed to kiss it so I wondered: is there any point at all going to Blarney with the kids, if the main attraction there is off-limits? It turns out: it is wort bringing hte kids to Blarney! There is much more to the castle than the…

All you need to know for visiting Blarney Castle: what to expect, how to go, if the visit is worth it, how to kiss the Blarney Stone. Blarney Castle is one of the most famous castles in Ireland and one of the countries most visited destinations. It is famous for being a medieval stronghold and for a peculiar story attached to the famous ‘Blarney Stone’ a stone that, if kisses, will give the kissed the gift of eloquence. But is visiting Blarney castle worth it? After many years in Ireland, during which I had ignored this castle, writing it off as a tourist trap without giving it a chance, one…
