Glenroe Farm: open farm and playground for a great family day out
Glenroe farm in Co Wicklow is a great place for a family day out with little kids. This is our review and why we recommend it for a fun family day out near Dublin with small kids
Glenroe Farm is an open farm in County Wicklow with lovely spaces and activities for families with kids.
The main house hosts a nice cafe and the grounds have a lovely playground, walks a fairy garden and there is an option to see animals and even pet some of them: they have super cute, soft rabbits!
Glenroe Farm is well indicated from the main road between Dublin and Wicklow and we first visited one day simply taking a detour on our way home but it is a very easy place to visit from the city.
It was a very successful day: while the rain meant we could only partially enjoy the place, we loved the layout and the cafe and found the walk in the meadow and the fairy garden exceptionally nice with kids.
These were our favorite parts of Glenroe Farm.
Best things to do in Glenroe Farm with kids
Glenroe Farm Playground
Glenroe Farm has a nice playground with several wooden structures and climbing frames suitable for kids of all ages.
The playground is on a large lawn and there is plenty of space for kids to play and parents to sit and supervise them: the cafe is nearby.

The nature walk and the fairy garden
Inside Glenroe Farm grounds you have a nice nature walk, easy to take with kids too. The path goes around the estate and leads you to a lovely area with wildflowers and benches and opens up onto something truly special: a fairy garden!

The fairy garden is magical: it is in a hidden corner just off the path, it has nice wooden seats and small tables to take a little rest and it has fairy doors and little fairy houses hidden all over the place.
It was an unexpected sight when we first went and felt truly like a wooded wonderland: on a rainy day, we were the only ones here and it was easy to imagine fairies all around you!

Meet the animals
Glenroe Farm is a petting farm and you can meet the animals with the help and supervision of the farm staff.
When we were there, we were able to pet some bunny rabbits and they also have super cute guinea pigs!
Not all animals are safe to cuddle but the staff is hands on and there were signs an all off-limits area, so we always felt safe even with very small children.
Our two loved the experience: city kids through and through, it doesn’t happen to them every day to be able to pet a soft rabbit!
Enjoy the cafe
Glenroe Farm has a nice cafe with tables both inside and out.
When we went, I noticed the wall was covered with pictures from a TV show set here between the 80s and the early 2000s.
Not growing up in Ireland, I had no idea about the show but it was fun to see the old photos and if you know the show, I think it is a fun thing to see!
For me, it was fun to learn about it and even if it wasn’t part of my childhood as such, set me down a path of childhood TV memories that my kids found hilarious!
