Irish coffee: how to make a delicious Irish Coffee at home

Learn how to make Irish coffee at home with this easy-to-follow recipe. Please note: this is a whiskey based cocktail and contains alcohol.

Irish coffee is a classic cocktail from Ireland made of coffee, Irish Whiskey and a topping of cream.

This drink is most commonly served as an after-dinner treat in winter, and you mostly find it in hotel restaurants and bars more than pubs. If you want to make it at home, this is how to make it.

Ingredients

  • Three parts of hot, freshly brewed coffee (a medium roast from a French press works great too)
  • One part of Irish whiskey
  • 1 tsp brown sugar (adjust to taste)
  • Cream (lightly whipped for topping)
  • Light dusting of cocoa powder for decoration

Equipment

  • Heatproof glass or Irish coffee mug
  • Spoon
  • Coffee maker
  • Source of hot water (I use a kettle)

Instructions

  1. Warm the glass by pouring in hot water, swish around, then let thw water sit in for a minute to the glass warms evenly.
  2. In the meantime, prepare the coffee.
  3. Empty the glass, then pour the hot coffee in, leaving about an inch of space at the top.
  4. Add the Whiskey and Sugar and stir in until the sugar is fully dissolved. Adjust the sweetness to your liking.
  5. Top with a dollop of whipped cream and serve immediately

Enjoy!
